Today was wirklich fabulous:) i woke up this morning and went to school, feeling a little bit uncertain of myself, which let me tell you, sucks when you have to teach little kids! The first class was a little difficult, but for the second, i got to sit in/help out with a 3rd grade english class...what a riot! Those kids are just so excited to learn, and we got to do some "head shoulders knees and toes", bingo, alphabet song, etc...super toll! After this, i got to do what we would call "sectionals" for band class. Again, it was a little bit hard at first, because i was pretty much put in a room with 4 eager 4th graders learning to play clarinet, with almost no instructions! Nevertheless, i managed to ask them enough questions and find out exactly what they were doing in their lessons, to at least lead a "Probe". So after this, i was ready for a tenor sax sectional with 2 4th grade girls, and an alto sax sectional with 4 6th grade girls. It was really fun once i got the hang of directing (haha, it is kind of hard, actually!)
I was done at about 2pm, and headed to Karl Marx Straße to do some shopping with my host sisters...again, super fun! This street is somewhat unliked because you see almost no Germans there, and it is almost entirely Turkish/Arabic people. But I was happy to hear my host sister say that she really loves the street, and goes there often for the really good shopping (and its pretty cheap, too!). No Ausländerfeindlichkeit (fear of foreigners) with them! Also...i am 2 for 2 as far as Döner consumption goes for this week :P
Tonight, I went to a small village about 60 km away with my host parents and one of my host sisters. They are part of a village choir in Rouen and they invited me to go with. It was so much fun! I have never sang in a choir before, nevermind a German one, but music reading skills came in handy, and i was able to follow and sing along. Again, it was really quite something to be able to be singing in some village in Germany with a bunch of old German people who can't speak English. I greatly enjoyed it, and it is great to be around and interacting with music again. Anyways, that was pretty much my day, and it really was a great one :)
